Perhaps the most important thing they do each year is to put on a cross country cowdog trial unlike any other competition in this country. Red Rock Hounds

In 1980 the horse world in Nevada was turned upside down as the age old tradition of fox hunting met old west style when Lynn Lloyd planted herself in the Red Rock area north of Reno and started Red Rock Hounds. In the 30 years since Lynn has developed a world-renowned pack of hounds and a hunt that draws fox-hunters from afar to experience the Red Rock style of hunting. Red Rock Hounds registered with the Masters of Foxhounds Association in November of 1980, and was recognized in 1987. With twelve English hounds drafted from the Los Altos Hounds, Lynn Lloyd founded the first foxhunt in the state of Nevada. Over the past 30 years, Red Rock Hounds has developed a prominent reputation through the efforts of the hunt's masters and members to open the public's eyes to the joy of fox hunting Nevada style. Since foxes are not prominent in Nevada Red Rock primarily hunts coyotes. Red Rock fox/coyote hunting is a sport of "scenting" where our intent is not to kill a coyote but to allow the hounds to find the scent of a coyote and follow the trail until it is no longer detectable. Red Rock Hounds hunt barns and kennels are based at Ross Creek Ranch in Red Rock valley, north of Reno. The ranch is more than 600 acres with most of it in pasture with fencelines intersected with many jumps consisting of coops, logs and other natural obstacles that are inviting to both horse and rider. The hounds enjoy a 2,500 square foot kennel and 75 acres of hound turn outs. The pack contains 75 couple of tri-colored American Walker foxhounds, the only such pack in the world. Please join us in the hunt field anytime, guests always welcome and livery is available. You do not have to jump or even ride in an English saddle to hunt with us!
